Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting
Volvo drivers love the remote control features of their key fob. They can lock and unlock their car or start the motor and even locate it using a smartphone application.
First, put the key fob on a clean work surface with the logo facing upwards. Find the button that will release it. Place a coin between the fob cover and the fob, then gently pull it up.
Unlocking the Doors
Volvo's remote keys can unlock the doors, tailgate, and the fuel filler flap of your car with the touch of one button. They also can switch on the ignition, trigger the alarm, and operate your sunroof when it's installed. You'll never again have to search for your keys or have to worry about locking out of your vehicle.
You might not be aware of key fob features that are not visible. One of these features is the manual lock/unlock button, which you can press in case your key fob battery dies.
Hold your key fob with Volvo logo facing up to press the manual lock/unlock. Find the black button which is near the edge of the body of your key fob and press it gently to open a cover that conceals the manual key blade. volvo spare key can be flipped counterclockwise using a flathead or coin.
Start the Engine
Modern Volvo key fobs offer the convenience and functionality unmatched by traditional manual keys. However, like any battery-operated electronic device key fobs can lose its charge, or cease working after a certain period of time. If you've noticed that your key fob is less responsive when you press the lock or unlock buttons, it's an indication that it's time to replace the battery.
You can activate this feature with the key fob if your vehicle is equipped with a dealer-installed Engine Remote Start. The vehicle will then cool or heat to the same temperature it was set to when parked. It will operate for up to 15 minutes.
Remove the back cover of the key fob by using your fingernail. A button should be located under the cover at an angle near the body's edge. Take it off by sliding it downwards and to the right. The cover will then fall open and slide off leaving the manual key blade inside! If you are still unable to locate the button, you can search the newly revealed manual key access to determine whether there's a hidden slot or lever.
Close the Windows
Volvo key fobs feature an unnoticed feature that allows you to instantly roll down all the windows. This is helpful in situations where you need to squeeze into tight parking spaces or simply want fresh air while driving.
To unlock the windows, press and hold the unlock button on your Volvo remote for four seconds. This will lower the windows as well as the sunroof, should you have one. Once you're done with the vehicle, you can shut all windows by pressing the lock key again for four seconds.
You can also use the key fob to trigger your car's panic alarm. This will make a loud noise that will draw attention to the car and deter thieves. It will also assist you return home safely even if you've been out for the night. This feature is useful should you reside in an area that is dangerous, or want to protect your family while away from home.
Opening the Tailgate
Volvo has loaded its key fobs with a lot of handy features. These are ideal when you're busy with grocery shopping or helping your kids pack up their sports equipment after practice.
For example, if you have the Hands-Free Power Liftgate with logo projection and adjustable height (if equipped), you can open it using the key fob. You can open the liftgate by pressing the button, and then close it by pressing the same button.
Utilize the key fob when you are ready to start your vehicle. (Don't worry if the battery is dead or if the car won't start since it also has a mechanical key slot). This is just one of the many tricks that can be useful for your new Volvo.

Turning Off the Alarm
Modern key fobs are more convenient than a mechanical car key. But, they're not working perfectly for long, and their batteries eventually go out of service. It is possible to program your key fob at home in case you are in a hurry or don't have time go to the shop.
Find a clean work surface and lay out your key fob, battery, and any other keys. Locate the small black button located at the bottom left corner of the key fob, then slide it to the right. The cover should fall off and fall off and reveal the mechanical key blade beneath it.
You can open all doors and the reargate by pressing the unlock button on the key fob twice. The lock button will also close the sunroof and windows (if fitted) by pressing it for 2 seconds. Connect the battery, and the alarm should stop. If it doesn't then the owner's manual should include a reset method.
